EZfoam

Foam dams and rim fire-system interfaces

Project-engineered foam-dam and rim-interface components that coordinate the floating roof, seal geometry and the fire-protection philosophy instead of treating the foam dam as a stand-alone strip of metal.

Design intent

The foam dam only works inside a correctly designed fire-protection system.

Height, material, support and position are governed by the roof and seal geometry as well as the selected fire-protection concept. The same physical detail is not appropriate for every internal, covered or external floating roof.

EZfoam is therefore supplied as project-engineered scope with the final material and geometry coordinated with the applicable fire-system design and code requirements.

Engineering priorities

What the design has to get right.

01

System integration

Foam delivery, rim seal and dam geometry are reviewed as one system.

02

Material selection

Material is selected from the actual fire-protection and project code basis.

03

Stable geometry

Plate height, supports and local leg sections are detailed for the roof configuration.

04

Inspection access

The arrangement should not create unnecessary obstacles to seal inspection and maintenance.

Scope

Typical scope

  • Foam-dam layout and segmentation
  • Support and bracing details
  • Interfaces at legs and local penetrations
  • Coordination with rim-seal height and secondary seal
  • Material and fastening specification
Inputs

Design inputs

  • Roof type and diameter
  • Primary and secondary seal configuration
  • Fire-protection philosophy and foam-delivery arrangement
  • Required dam height and available clearance
  • Project material restrictions
  • Inspection and access requirements
Standards & project basis

Designed from the application, then checked against the code.

Fire-protection design remains the responsibility of the project fire-system basis. EZfoam geometry and materials are coordinated with applicable requirements such as NFPA 11 where relevant.
